The ComPro design involved a total redesign of the pocket transit to ultimately incorporate a cast NdFeB (rare earth) magnet which is precisely balanced on a synthetic sapphire bearing. The result is a powerful needle which seeks magnetic north quickly and allows faster readings. While the needle design allows trouble free usage over a wide tilt range, it is recommended that the needle be specifically balanced for projects below the 10 degree north latitude.
